Building a Career on Curiosity, Risk, and Understanding
My career path has been a little unconventional to say the least. But one thread has always run through it: curiosity, a willingness to take calculated risks, and a drive to understand people, processes, and cultures.
From Languages to Leadership: Early Lessons in Learning
I studied languages back in the days when research meant hours with books in the library. The highest tech we had was a photocopier, and I didn’t touch a laptop until five years into my first job. The internet wasn’t even a thing yet.
First Steps in Industry: Experience Over Certificates
My first role was in screen printing and graphic production—one of the first graduates in the industry in the UK. Back then, experience and the ability to learn on the job mattered more than certificates. I was lucky: my first employer encouraged me to stretch, learn, and grow. And I thrived.
International Programme Delivery: Lessons from the US
Then came my first big leap of faith: uprooting my family and moving to North Carolina. It wasn’t easy—we eventually returned to the UK after three years—but it was life-changing. Bigger programmes, bigger orders, new cultures, and a whole new perspective.
Driving Business Transformation Through Innovation
Back in Europe, I was asked to breathe life into a concept that challenged how the industry worked. Instead of producing centrally and shipping globally, we built a network to produce locally using early internet technologies for data transfer, governance, assurance, and visibility. Twenty years later, that company is a leader in its field.
From SMEs to Global Corporates: Scaling Programme Delivery
After a decade there, I knew it was time for a new challenge. I moved into the large corporate world—global management consultancy, working on behalf of multinationals. Different environment, same principles: identify a need, create a concept, and make it real.
Why I Founded DPW Solutions: Sharing Knowledge and Experience
And now? I find myself gaining as much satisfaction from helping others deliver as I do from my own work. That’s why I started Delivering Practical Working (DPW) Solutions: to pass on the experience, the lessons, and the perspective I’ve gathered across 35 years and four continents.
My Value Proposition: Turning Vision into Practical Strategies
My value proposition is simple: helping you turn vision into practical, deliverable strategies and programmes with structure, purpose, and people at the heart.
Because big ideas need more than operations to thrive. They need the right blend of clarity, delivery, and humanity. And that’s what I bring—whether as hands-on programme resource, a partner in building your organisational capability, or someone to help you transform an idea into a reality.
Working With Purpose-Driven Organisations
Of course, there’s one caveat: I only work with organisations whose ideals align with my own. I’ve seen too many leaders reduce people to numbers. Profit and loss may be a barometer of success, but it can’t be the only measure. People are the engine of delivery—ignore them, and nothing else works.
Let’s Deliver Impact Together
So, if you’re looking for someone who’s truthful, down-to-earth, and committed to making things happen—not just advising from the sidelines—let’s talk. Together, we can take your vision and turn it into a practical, purposeful reality.
